Look at what we've been learning in maths today!!!!!

We are learning to solve word problems using multiplication strategies.
These are some of the strategies we used - Splitting numbers (12 = 10+2). place value partitioning (10+10+10=30, 2+2+2=6), multiplication (3x10=30, 3x2=6).

We think we can use these strategies to figure out other word problems and equations such as;
You can try and give it a go too! use our examples above to help you and let us know how you go : )

Great work Room 1, keep it up!!!!!

Feed the Need is an organisation that provides low decile schools with fresh, hot lunches.
With the support from Whaea Simone (administration staff), we are fortunate enough to receive hot soups and stews every Tuesday and Thursday during the winter period, starting this week.
Room 1 absolutely love them, and they look forward to receiving their hot lunches.

Feed the Need not only provide hot lunches for every single child in the school, they also provide all the cutlery, serviettes, bread rolls and butter.

Thank you Feed the Need!!!!!!

 Road Patrol
So today while I was on road patrol, this lovely group from the Te Whanau Awhina, came out with these awesome road safety signs.
 Ka rawe tamariki ma!
Look at them holding their signs up so that cars will remember to slow down around school areas.
 Ka Pai Ma Cynthia!
So please remember to be safe around the road.

Look who Whaea Edith and Matua Hemi had a photo with........ The Laughing Samoans!!!!
I even got a t-shirt with their signatures on it... Don't worry, I will bring it in for you all to see : )
Please excuse my writing. Today we watched a video about the history of ANZAC Day back in 1915. After watching this video, the children were asked to record what they remembered - What they could hear, see and feel.
Everyone wanted to share what they had written at the end of the lesson.

Our trip to the Botanic Gardens - what a stunning class we have Room 1
Here we are sitting patiently waiting for our tour guides : )
Whaea Oronsay (left) was our lovely assistant today. Thank you!!!
Whaea Oronsay asking the children to look into the shallow water feature, and describe what they see.
Our tour guide asks the children about the life cycle of a plant (tree) and what they think happens.

After being educated about the life cycle of the tree, and the different parts the children then engage in an activity to check their understanding. Were we listening Rm 1?????
Martini lays down the tree roots.
Jordan and Lachlan add the tree trunk
Meletonga and Brian add on the tree branches.
and lastly, Danielle and Lose add the leaves.
YAY!!!! you did it Room 1 : )
Now what can we expect to see on this particular tree??????
mmmm Berries, insects and birds.

Our Topic this term is about 'How Things Grow', and in particular - Plants.
We are going to be growing Radish. We are each given our seeds.
First we need to add soil into our plant pots.
Then we need to make a hole in the dirt to drop our seeds into.
Then we wrote our names on our plant labels.

<-------- See

Now we are super excited to watch them grow!!
Today a lovely lady from ASB Bank visited our classroom. She provides a 'Get Wise' programme that educates children (and teachers) about how to save and invest money : ) she also had us engaged in some really awesome interactive activities, like songs that had some pretty funny actions.
Can you guess what animal we're pretending to be?----------------------------------------------------->

Yup! we're pretending to be...........elephants : )
Can you guess what chore I might be doing at home in this picture?
<---------------------------------------------------

Yup! we're pretending to sweep the floor.
Now we're being asked questions like "What would you do if you had $100?"
Here are some responses;

1. "I would buy my mum a present" (sooo sweet!)
2. "I would buy me some lollies"
3. "I would buy a house"

Wow! look at all these keen Room 1 students : )
What great active listeners you all are!
